Massage Therapy works to relax the Nervous System and release "feel-good" hormones, leaving you feeling more relaxed and able to have a better sleep.
Massage Therapy addresses the expectant mothers areas of pain and discomfort, providing relief from Nerve Pain (Sciatica), Back Pain, Joint Pain, Muscle Tension and Headaches.
Massage Therapy helps to stimulate soft tissues to reduce the collection of fluids in swollen joints. Also, improves the removal of tissue waste carried by the body's lymphatic system.
Massage Therapy can reduce the levels of hormones such as norepinephrine and cortisol (the stress hormones) and increase levels of dopamine and serotonin (low levels of these hormones are associated with depression).
The strokes used in Massage Therapy activate the nervous system, which, in turn, causes blood to circulate more freely. Enhanced Circulation improves oxygen in the blood, heart and arteries and makes blood flow more freely, preventing or minimizing the risk of edema.
Hormone levels associated with relaxation and stress are significantly altered when Massage Therapy is introduced into Prenatal Care, leading to mood regulation and improved cardiovascular health.

Massage therapy is particularly suitable for expecting mothers that are considered "high risk", as it fosters relaxation, alleviates anxiety, aids in the physiological aspects of pregnancy, and can alleviate the discomfort and muscle tension that arise during bed rest.
However- patients identified as having a "High Risk" pregnancy are encouraged to seek guidance from their prenatal healthcare provider regarding the suitability of massage therapy. It is advisable to discuss any precautions or limitations pertaining to the massage treatment and/or positioning for the massage with their healthcare provider before commencing treatment.
Our Registered Massage Therapist, Alyxandra, has completed additional training and education in treating high-risk pregnancies. Her advanced skills ensure tailored, safe, and effective care for expectant mothers facing unique challenges.
Patients presenting with any of the following symptoms/conditions at the time of their appointment are advised to postpone or cancel their appointment until the condition is resolved or they obtain clearance for massage therapy from their prenatal healthcare provider:
